Encinitas resident is a ‘class act’

Neils Lund of Encinitas is being honored by 10News for establishing Class ACT (Arts, Children, Technology), a non-profit organization that provides school children in the San Diego community and in other countries with personal growth opportunities.

Neils founded Class ACT under a local arts organization in 1998, and in 2002 it branched out as its own independent non-profit program. He initiated Class ACT to continue arts programs for children as result of the school district cancelling music courses at his child’s school. Class ACT was established to promote the development of visual arts, technology, and performing arts programming.

As of 2008, Class ACT has extended its program with a global outreach component, linking local schools and children with adopted classrooms in developing countries. In addition, the local schools help fund the other countries’ school arts projects, supplies, and other additional educational needs. With its connection to other nations, Class ACT has allowed students to see and appreciate how their education is more developed than those in other counties and has fostered cultural enrichment. Class ACT raises funding for art education and helps children share their art through global networks and is supported by number of individuals, organizations, businesses and government funding. The organization builds on multicultural wealth of the community and encourages cross-cultural understanding while improving individual artistic, technological and academic merit.

Neils Lund will receive the 10News Leadership Award on Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the category of “Future Leaders.”  Watch 10News Live at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, for the presentation of the award.  For more information, please contact Class ACT at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or visit http://www.classactarts.org.
